Varnell wrote out a letter to the community as part of Gearbox’s routine Battleplans. It serves both as an announcement of Battleborn’s development ending and as a goodbye to the game’s community. Here are some of Varnell’s most poignant words:
The comments posted in reply to Varnell’s letter are extremely thankful for his kind words and Gearbox’s work on Battleborn since it launched 15 months ago. While Battleborn may not have garnered the popularity it needed to keep development going into the future, it’s clear there was a passionate and dedicated community nonetheless.
The Fall Update for Battleborn is somewhat underwhelming; there’s no grand goodbye update in the works at Gearbox. The patch, which does not yet have a release date, will feature new Borderlands-themed skins, updated title art, Finisher Boosts, and taunts. Some minor balance changes will also be passed through. Perhaps the team has a surprise in store, but with developers already shifting over to Gearbox’s other projects what’s already known is very likely to be all of the Fall Update.
Along with revealing Battleborn’s final update, the letter also marked the end of Battleplan updates to the community. Details are certain to be forthcoming about finalized information for the Fall Update, but otherwise communication from Gearbox regarding Battleborn will likely taper off if not end completely. Gearbox is moving forward, but Battleborn itself remains.
Battleborn is available now via expansive free-to-play demo on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
