The Spaniard was a wildcard selection for this year’s tournament, but he played a key role for Thomas Bjorn’s team and his third win of the week saw him move to 25.5 points overall.
And that figure, reached with a 2 and 1 win over Rickie Fowler, took Garcia past Nick Faldo’s previous all-time record tally of 25.
But the humble Garcia preferred to focus on his sixth team win rather than revel in personal achievement.
“It obviously means a lot but, at the end of the day, I’ve always said it, it’s about the team,” he told Sky Sports. “I’m happy that I was able to help.
“It’s a bonus. It’s something that I never thought I would have the possibility of doing. Now that it’s happened, I’m just so happy. These guys are unbelievable.”
