Naturally, many assumed that the major event would be canceled in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic currently spreading across the world. However, it appears Gamescom is sticking to the claim it made about the status of the show last month. For those who don’t remember, Gamescom claimed that the show would still go on despite the spread of the virus.

There has been one major change to the event’s plans, however, with the conference claiming it could go fully digital. “Millions of fans worldwide are excited about Gamescom 2020,” claimed Felix Falk, managing director of Game, one of the major companies behind Gamescom. “That is why we are determined to celebrate the latest news, announcements and world premieres together with the community again this year at the end of August. In view of the Coronavirus crisis, we are now expanding all digital formats at full speed so that Gamescom 2020 can at least take place digitally in any case.”

With many excited about the event, it’s good to hear the conference will go ahead in a way that puts the safety of its fans at the forefront. No doubt many players will be excited to see what the showcase has to offer, whether live or broadcast via digital networks.

Gamescom will take place on August 25 later this year.
