It took a little longer for Pikmin 3 to be released, but Nintendo exceeded all expectations when the third game was released on Wii U in 2013. Although an enhanced port for Nintendo Switch was released in 2020 as Pikmin 3 Deluxe, the series has been largely inactive on home consoles since then. Pikmin 4 has been a long time coming, so it is understandable that many fans of the series might not be willing to wait any longer to play something similar to the franchise.

7 Bugsnax Is Creature-Collecting Fun

Bugsnax will definitely remind players of the Pikmin series, primarily because of its charming visuals and cheerful gameplay. The main goal of the game is to find and capture the titular bugsnax, a collection of animals that are half-bug and half-snack.

Although Bugsnax was originally released for PC and PlayStation in 2020, it has since been ported to all major consoles and has even had a free expansion released as of 2022. With a huge wealth of content available to everyone, Bugsnax is easily one of the best creature-collection games available.

6 The Wild At Heart Makes Use Of Spritelings Instead

Pikmin isn’t the only game that makes use of smaller creatures in order to engage in combat, and The Wild At Heart took that feature and ran with it. It is an indie game released in 2021 that has interesting visuals and is generally straight-forward, even if the combat can be tricky at times.

The Wild At Heart is an open world exploration game that players can enjoy in a non-linear fashion, where they use spritelings and their abilities to defeat enemies. Much like Pikmin, players can use ‘spritelings’ to solve puzzles and gather resources in it.

5 Tinykin Is The Closest To Pikmin A Game Can Get

Captain Olimar and the other main characters of the Pikmin franchise are among the best video game beastmasters, but Milodane from Tinykin definitely gives them a run for their money. It uses a similar color-coordination method as Pikmin, with five different types of ’tinykin’ revealed throughout the game. Each one serves a different purpose, just like Pikmin.

1 Overlord: Fellowship Of Evil Is A Darker Alternative

The Overlord series functions much the same as Pikmin, but the setting could not be more different. The original game was released in 2007, and Overlord 2 quickly followed in 2009. Both of these games saw players take control of the titular overlord, directing hordes of goblins to do his bidding.

The series has been pretty much left alone since 2009 but a spin-off, Overlord: Fellowship Of Evil, was released in 2015. The gameplay changed quite a lot and players could now choose one of four characters to control, but the main function of controlling goblin-hordes remains the same.

Pikmin 4 will be released in 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
